Chinese Evergreens are native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, particularly regions of Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In their natural habitat, they grow in the understory of dense forests, often shaded by taller trees. They are accustomed to high humidity, warm temperatures, and consistent moisture, which makes them highly adaptable to indoor life. Water your Chinese Evergreen moderately, allowing the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry between watering's. Over watering is a common mistake and can lead to root rot or yellowing leaves. Under watering is generally less harmful, but prolonged drought can cause leaf tip browning. These plants prefer a balanced approach, where the soil stays slightly moist but never soggy.

Chinese Evergreens can be propagated through stem cuttings or division. For stem cuttings, cut a healthy stem with at least 2–3 leaves, place it in water or moist soil, and wait for roots to develop. Division is typically done when re-potting by gently separating the plant at the root ball into smaller sections and planting each in its own pot.

Chinese Evergreens have slow to moderate growth, with upright stems and lush, variegated foliage. Leaves can range from 6–12 inches long, with a variety of color patterns. Indoors, the plant typically reaches 3–4 feet tall, and with optimal conditions, it can live for many years as a centerpiece in any space.
